the old(ish) lady with the spiders
I keep finding spiders in my house...
and you know that old song - the lady who swallowed a spider to catch the fly...?
Well I've just been informed by my daughter that a proliferation of birds can lead
to a reduced lizard population... thus, probably the reason I've had no lizards this summer...
I've had lots of birds I've not seen in previous years... and thus, no lizards to eat the spiders...
or any of all those other bugs they normally eat... but mostly I am noticing the absence of my lizards
because of the abundance of spiders and their webs.

I hate spiders most of all. I still have the surgical scars on my leg tue to a black widow bite.
I like the lizards too, and now that you mention it, I'm aware that there aren't as many here either. I'm not seeing a huge influx of new birds though, so I'll chalk it up to the extreme heat, hoping they are hiding somewhere in the shade.
I'm gonna have to mention that to my daughter... see what she says. It is unusual that you don't have the lizards this year in Florida either.

Hopefully it will be cold soon and all the spiders will go on their winters cruises to an island where they can sunbathe!!!

It's interesting how everything is connected, isn't it? I wonder why your bird population has multiplied? I like spiders to stay OUTSIDE!
Me too! on the spiders staying outside. Usually I don't have a problem. In previous years I have always had at least 3 lizards visit my porch daily. This spring and summer, I have seen not one.
I too have been wondering why the change in the bird diversity and population this year. Wondering why a change of course... what brought them here this year. I've been loving having the birds... just wish I had my lizards too. :-/
