  • Who's Watching the Watchers - (it was a Star Trek episode)

inspired by McBerry's comment - 'watching the watchers', I did some looking of my own and here's what I found.

Why is it that Democratic presidents, after promising a more open, transparent White House and greater respect for Americans' individual rights, always end up strengthening the national security state and protecting its secrecy?

President Obama, on Friday, defended the vast surveillance network of the National Security Agency, using jargon and themes adapted from his Republican predecessors:  Trust us. If you only knew what we knew.  The people who need to know are in the know.

The nation's first African-American president, lampooned by the right for once working as a community organizer,  sounded like a Cold War-vintage Ivy League blueblood.

But you know I think it's true... you do have to trust your government... they do know things we'll never know, and probably things they wish they never had to know.  I think the promises change once they get into office because they do learn alot of things they never could have imagined.

    Sooo....
    Who WILL guard the guardians?

  • You're right, both parties do it. We need someone who will stand up against corruption and just do the right thing. Seems like that's a little scarce these days. Power corrupts. That's why they are not trusted. I'm glad God is watching over us all.

  • I think the Declaration of Independence says that whey a nation becomes corrupt and oppressive or something like that, the people have the right to rise up and overthrow it--that is what we did to England. It seems voting really does not work anymore. We never get a Congress that will enforce the full meaning of the Constitution, and Presidents of late have made some sorry decisions, but the House and the Senate let them get away with it and do not enforce the separation of powers between the executive, legislative, and judicial powers.

    I fear for our country.
